The Chairman of the National Democratic Congress Council of Elders in South Africa, Mr. Benjamin Kofi Quashie, has called upon party members to rally behind former President John Dramani Mahama. Following Mahama’s victory in the recent elections, Mr. Quashie emphasized the importance of supporting him as the party’s leader in preparation for the 2024 elections.

In his statement, Mr. Quashie acknowledged Mahama’s inclusive nature, highlighting his ability to work harmoniously with everyone within the party as they move forward into the upcoming elections.

When asked about the possibility of Mahama choosing Dr. Duffuor as his running mate, Mr. Quashie deferred to Mahama’s decision-making, stating that it is ultimately up to him. He expressed confidence that Mahama would carefully consider the individual’s commitment to the country, the party, and other pertinent factors before making a selection.

Regarding the perceived rift between Mahama and his fellow northern brothers, particularly in relation to recent leadership changes in Parliament, Mr. Quashie dismissed such claims, emphasizing that there is no division between Mahama and the northern NDC stalwarts. He highlighted the fact that Mr. Haruna Iddrisu, a prominent northern member, actively campaigned for Mahama and celebrated his victory publicly, dispelling any notion of animosity.

In terms of the upcoming elections, Mr. Quashie expressed his belief that the NDC is well-positioned to triumph over any candidate fielded by the NPP. He cited the ruling party’s underwhelming performance and failure to connect with the Ghanaian people as factors that would work in the NDC’s favor.

For the most part, Mr. Quashie’s appeal for support aims to unify the NDC behind Mahama’s leadership, emphasizing the need for cohesion and collaboration as they prepare for the 2024 elections.
